ABOUT The Lessons

If you’re serious about becoming a more complete guitarist — understanding how music works, playing with more confidence, and developing a sound that’s unmistakably your own — these lessons are for you.

I work with intermediate and advanced players, as well as motivated students who may be newer to jazz or improvisation but are ready to dig deeper. Whether your goals lean toward jazz, pop, or studio work, the focus is always on helping you play with clarity, groove, and intention.

We’ll tailor each session to your musical goals, covering areas such as:
· Strengthening time, tone, and phrasing
· Understanding harmony and chord movement
· Developing improvisational fluency
· Applying theory to real-world styles — from jazz to pop to classic rock
· Preparing for studio sessions or live performance

My approach combines a working musician’s perspective with an educator’s clarity. I’ve studied with legends like Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden, and Jim Hall and toured internationally with artists such as Harry Belafonte, Richard Bona and Madeleine Peyroux. Alongside that, I’ve composed and produced for brands like Mercedes, Calvin Klein, YSL, and McDonald’s, with music featured in films and shows like Zoolander, Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, and The Chew on ABC.

As an educator, I’ve also published over twenty full-length courses on guitar, music theory, and composition, helping thousands of students worldwide strengthen both their playing and their understanding of music. That same experience shapes my private lessons — clear structure, real-world application, and a focus on musical growth that lasts.

Every player’s path is different. My goal is to help you bridge the gap between theory and instinct, so you can play — and sound — like the musician you want to be.

  • "Now hear this! all of you want to be guitarists, if all you want to do is play the guitar, maybe this is not for you. However if you want to explore the possibilities of the guitar as a creative musical experience, Gregg can take you there. Here is an opportunity to get down with the master. Don`t pass up a chance to discover a talent you might never have known you had."

  • "I've worked with Gregg Fine many times in all kinds of groups and he is definitely a guitarist of extraordinary ability and musicality. He's one of those players who has all the technique in the world but doesn't need to prove it but when it's time...watch out! Playing with Gregg is always something to look forward to, he's a true professional!!"

    Bryan Steele
    Saxophonist/Composer
    (Aretha Franklin, Billy Joel)

  • "Gregg Fine is a sensitive guitarist who can adapt to different playing styles. Aside from accompanying singers with a fine touch and good harmonic sense, he has the technique to lay down solid single runs or chordal solos."

    Morris Goldberg

    (Paul Simon, Hugh Masekela)

  • "I have worked with Gregg on many occasions and covering many different styles. He is truly a force or nature. His capacity to interpret and bring musical ideas to life in original and sensitive ways makes him my first choice guitarist every time. Beyond his technical prowess, Gregg has deep writing and improvisational skills, and he is always a pleasure to work with."

    Joel Douek
    Composer
    (BBC, Discovery Channel, Yu-Gi-Oh!)

  • I think I was a pretty arrogant player at first (with a whole lot to learn), but Gregg helped me understand the importance of proper technique and practice as key to being a real player. I also learned to enjoy the experience of being a beginner. The lesson's were paced at my skill level and I really saw myself improve over the months. I surprise some of my friends with my improvising now!
